Waqaas rolls with cool new ice cream concept from Thailand

-

JUST when you think you’ve scoffed everything dessert parlours have to offer, a new way of eating ice cream comes along.

Big Rollerz is Nottingham’s first gourmet rolled ice cream takeaway.

Owner Waqaas Khan has taken the popular Thai dessert and given it a twist, by using his Pakistani heritage, tailored to British taste buds.

The new shop has opened in Forest Road East, just off Mansfield Road.

Waqass said: “Our journey began with the process of making ice cream rolls in Thailand, a technique that fascinated me with its beauty and simplicity.

“However, at Big Rollerz, we’ve taken this concept a step further by integrating the lush rich flavours of Pakistani culture into our offerings.”

Flavours include Gulab Jamun and Pistachio and Belgian Chocolate, alongside innovative mixes such as Strawreo – a combination of Oreos and strawberries. The ice cream rolls also come in popular chocolate bar flavours such as Mars Bars, Snickers and Kinder Bueno.

Ice cream rolls are made fresh in front of customers. A special blend of liquid ice cream mix and fresh ingredients are poured on to a metal “ice pan” that is kept at a sub-zero temperature. Once the liquid hits the surface, it begins to freeze.

The server has to quickly manipulate the cream with a pair of metal spatulas, spreading it evenly across the entire surface of the pan.

Depending on the recipe, any additional ingredients such as chocolate, strawberries or mangoes are added. Once the ice cream freezes, it is rolled into strips.

The dessert shop also sells Mexican-style tres leches milkcake, waffle sticks, milkshakes, freshly baked cookie dough, and deconstructed cheesecakes.

The desserts can be ordered in person and through delivery platforms Ubereats, Deliveroo and Just Eat.
