Nuno focused only on games as Toffees penalty reduced
FOREST WAITING TO DISCOVER THEIR FATE AFTER EVERTON NOW DOCKED SIX RATHER THAN 10 POINTS
HEAD coach Nuno Espirito Santo wants his Nottingham Forest players to focus on their own task in hand, following the news Everton have had their penalty for breaching financial regulations reduced.
The Reds are facing their own charge for falling foul of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
They are yet to discover their fate but are expected to face an independent commission next month.
Everton were docked 10 points in November for a PSR breach. That sanction has now been reduced to six points following their appeal, although they are facing another possible points deduction for breaching the rules a second time.
Nuno’s side have dropped a place, to 17th, but the Portuguese says the uncertainty around offthe-pitch matters must not be a distraction for his squad.
“I understand you are going to ask a lot of things about this but I cannot tell you much,” Nuno said ahead of tomorrow night’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester United.
“We still have to wait for the decision regarding us to be made, then we will see.
“Absolutely, totally right (it cannot be a distraction).
“Our focus has to be on training, on the games, on preparation and our tasks.”
Financial regulations state Premier League clubs are only allowed to make a maximum loss of £105m across a rolling threeyear period, or £35m each season.
For promoted teams that is reduced, meaning the Reds have been restricted to losses of £61m for the last three campaigns – £13m for the two seasons in the Championship prior to promotion, plus £35m in the Premier League last season.
The extent to which the club have breached the limit is not yet known.
Asked if the club have a date for their hearing with an independent commission, Nuno said: “You should ask someone else from the club.
“My job is to prepare the team and focus on what we have to do.
“Regarding the hearing and the decision, we are waiting.
“There are people in the club taking care of that, so these questions are not appropriate for me because I will not say much.”
