A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a Radford house fire left a woman seriously ill in hospital.

The victim, in her 40s, yesterday remained in a critical condition following the incident on Friday, which police say was captured on mobile phones.

Nottinghamshire Police say a 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody after the incident, which happened just after 5pm on Forster Street. An increased police presence in the area is expected in the coming days as a “extensive investigation” is carried out, though officers say there is no risk to the wider public.

Detective Inspector Amy Revill, who is investigating the incident, said: “We are currently treating this incident as arson and have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder. Our thoughts are very much with the victim and her family who is currently in hospital in what has been described as a critical condition.

“We are working extremely hard to build up a picture of what has happened. We know there were quite a few people at the scene on Friday. We have already spoken to a number of people as part of our investigation.

“However, we are aware that some people had captured the incident on their mobile phone. We would very much like to speak to those people as this could very much help with our investigation. Anyone with dashcam footage from the area before, during or after the fire broke out is also being urged to come forward.

“We know this incident will have alarmed the local community and there will be an increased presence in the area. If you have any concerns, then please do talk to one of our officers.”

Anyone with information, mobile phone or dashcam footage from the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 0584 of March 1. Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
