Goose pub closing to be transformed into a Hickory’s Smokehouse

-

A PUB is set to close in June to be transformed into a Hickory’s Smokehouse.

The Goose at Gamston first opened in 1998 at a cost of £2m and once again it is to undergo a significant investment.

The Goose is one of several Greene King pubs across the East Midlands having a rebrand. The classic pub grub menu of fish and chips and steak and ale pie will switch to an array of barbecued meats with flavours from the Deep South and indulgent brunches.

A Greene King spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce that there are plans for the Goose at Gamston to become a Hickory’s Smokehouse in Nottingham. We have notified the team at the pub of this exciting development for the venue, and the current plan is for it to close in June and undergo a significant investment before reopening in autumn this year.”

Founded in 2010 by Neil Mcdonnell, Hickory’s has grown into a leading BBQ smokehouse restaurant operator in the UK, with 20 restaurants across the North West, Midlands and Yorkshire, including one in Nuthall, which opened in 2021. In October 2022 it was announced that Greene King was investing in Hickory’s to help build it into a national dining brand.

The smokehouse opening is expected to significantly increase the size of the workforce. Current staff have been told they could transfer to Hickory’s, while Greene King is exploring opportunities for them to relocate to nearby pubs.

The company has not stated what will be happening to the children’s Wacky Warehouse play area, which also hosts birthday parties.
