HOW SHOULD CASH BE SPENT IN CLIFTON?

-

PEOPLE in Clifton are being invited to have their say on how £20million of Government money should be spent in the area.

Clifton was confirmed as one of 55 areas of the country being given investment over the next 10 years to boost its high street.

The funding announcement was first made last October, with successful areas having to establish a ‘town board’ to prepare a long-term plan for the funding. The board will see community leaders, employers, councils and the local MP deciding how to use the money but residents have now been invited to join the body as well.

It comes as Nottingham City Council confirmed Stephen Hackney, Pastor of the Hope Church in Clifton, has been appointed as the chair of the Clifton town board. Mr Hackney said: “It’s a privilege to have been invited to the role of chair of the newly formed Clifton town board. The Levelling Up Fund offers a unique opportunity to drive community change based on local listening and priorities.

“I look forward to forming the new board and together facilitating a vision for Clifton based on collaboration, partnership and authentic local engagement. Together I am confident we can pursue creative initiatives and ventures to further the journey of levelling up, transformation and community flourishing.”

The Government previously said priorities for the funding should include tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, improving transport connections and making high streets more attractive. Those who want to express an interest in joining the Clifton town board can do so at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/ expressionofinterest. People need to register by March 15.
