Great place to wet your whistle close to station

- Danielle Jeffery

ON Wednesday evening I was invited to the soft opening of the Brew Tavern, a micro pub next to Nottingham railway station.

After the closure of the original pub, Beerheadz, at the back end of last year, the announcement that a new micro pub would continue to occupy that space was the best news pub-goers of Nottingham could have hoped for.

Craft beer fans in the city would have undoubtedly heard of the fantastic bottle shop Brew Cavern, in Flying Horse walk, specialists in craft beers from around the world.

You would be hard pressed to find a bottle shop with such a high quality range of beers.

Brew Tavern is the sister of Brew Cavern, so you can be sure that the attention and love of beer in the shop will translate perfectly to the new venture.

A one-roomed cosy micro pub has been given a fresh decor upgrade, with the feeling of being much brighter and airier. Sporting five cask lines and eight keg lines, two of the eight are dedicated to their 4% light and utterly refreshing house lager.

An extra special cask line-up for the opening, with five beers from London-based micro brewery The Kernel.

I started with the imperial brown stout London 1856, a 9.6% beer, dark black with coffee aromas, with rich dried fruits before a roasted and smooth finish.

Continuing the love of local breweries from the bottle shop, Brew Tavern had four beers from Langley Mill brewery Bang the Elephant.

They always manage to create such amazing beers, including an 8.4% cool ship wild ale blended with barrel-aged cider, a must try!

Brew Tavern will be taking part in a Nottingham beer event, the Tilquin Fruit Extravaganza on March 22-24.

Five venues across the city will be pouring 10 fruited beers from the Belgium based nano brewery. A great reason to explore all venues and have to delectable beers to boot!

Stepping off a train at the station and finding Brew Tavern as your first pub in Nottingham will certainly set the bar high for the rest of Nottingham’s pubs.

There’s no doubt that with Matt and his team at the helm, you can expect only the best, exclusive and most exciting beer from local breweries and beyond.

The knowledge, passion and love of beer will undoubtedly make this venue a must visit for anyone who has that same love for the craft.

I wish Brew Tavern all the luck and success in the world, and I shall certainly be seeing you often!
