Archers eye back-to-back wins as they face lowly Cambridge
FULL-BACK MEE RETURNS TO STARTING LINE-UP FOR AWAY CLASH
NOTTINGHAM travel south today to take on Cambridge in the Championship (3pm) and will be looking to build on their narrow home win over London Scottish.
Last Friday, Craig Hammond’s men staved off a second half comeback attempt from Scottish to claim their first league win since February 3.
Cambridge earned promotion to the Championship from National One last season but are second from bottom going into today’s game, only above Scottish.
And Cambridge also have the worst statistical attack and worst statistical defence in the league.
However, Nottingham will guard against complacency as Cambridge have already given them a big scare this season.
When Richie Williams’ team visited The Bay in December, they ran the Green and Whites close, forcing them to come up with a strong defensive stand on the try line in the last minute to secure a 22-19 victory.
Elias Caven will once again be the danger man for the home team.
The speedy winger was one of the few Cambridge players to have experience at this level before this season, having made a handful of appearances for Hartpury in 2017 and 2018.
He has clocked up an impressive eight tries in the Championship this season, including the opener against Nottingham at The Bay.
Nottingham fans will also want to keep an eye on Sam Edwards, the Leicester Tigers loanee who spent two years in a Green and White jersey.
The young scrum-half has shown a lot of promise since arriving in Cambridge in November and has even made appearances for the Tigers first team in the Premiership Cup.
For the Archers, talented full-back Ellis Mee returns to the starting lineup.
In only his first year for Nottingham, the youngster has already proved to be one of the most dangerous backs in the team and will be looking to add to his tally of four tries in all competitions
Beltus Nonleh, a loanee prop from Northampton Saints, makes his fifth appearance for Nottingham.
He won Northampton’s February player of the month award for his performances in a Green and White jersey. Nonleh also made a single appearance for Cambridge this season before joining Nottingham, going on in the final couple of minutes in their away victory over London Scottish in December.
Nottingham will be aiming to chalk up another win today as they have a couple of really tough games on the horizon, with two top five teams in Bedford Blues and Coventry coming to town in consecutive weeks.
