‘Everyone wondering how that works’ says Toffees boss Dyche

-

SEAN Dyche has questioned how points deduction are worked out after Nottingham Forest were docked two less points than Everton for their breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Forest have been deducted four points which has plunged them into the relegation zone with only nine matches left to play until the end of the season. They are one point behind 18th-placed Luton Town.

An independent commission found Forest had breached the rules by £34.5m. A six-point deduction was reduced to four points because of the club’s early plea and co-operation.

The Premier League are said to have suggested Forest should have been docked eight points before mitigation, with a reduction to six points. Everton on the other hand, were initially handed a 10-point deduction in November, which was reduced to six on appeal.

The Merseysiders are also facing a second charge for breaching financial rules but they are yet to find out the outcome of that breach. With that said, Dyche was asked about the Reds’ penalty in his press-conference yesterday.

He said: “I don’t know the minutiae of our own let alone theirs.

“I can only imagine there’s more depth for it. On it’s simplest form everyone is wondering how that works but there is so much that goes into it. Rhymes and reasons to it is down to the appeal situation. In it’s simplest form everyone is going ‘how does that work out?

On the possibility of more punishment coming their way, Dyche added: “You can’t judge every person in their own psychology but the main thing is we know we’re all on board with it. It’s the reality. We’ve dealt with it before really well.

“It’s an experience nobody wants but it’s the reality. The players don’t seem affected at this time so we will see what it brings.”

Meanwhile, Reds boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: “Now we know the reality and the reality is we are in the relegation zone. Who are we to say (whether) it’s fair or unfair.

“We have to focus on what we have to do and what we have to do is on the pitch. Forget about everything and focus on our task to get out of the situation. It’s in our hands to revert this situation and to get points on the pitch.”
