A FORMER nurse has been named as having the best aesthetics business in Nottingham and is a finalist for the 2024 Hair and Beauty Awards.

Naomi Doswell, of Selston, started her business five years ago after deciding to change her career from the health sector to the beauty sector to allow her to spend more time with her children.

She will be attending the red carpet event for the awards in Birmingham on June 1.

The 37-year-old said: “I still can’t believe that it is happening, I started my business up from scratch.

“I used to work in A&E for four years as an auxiliary nurse and in the nursing industry, and then I had children.

“I started off just doing brows and I never thought that my business would become this big as it’s grown so fast in the last five years.

“It was just every day I was grafting and grafting and it feels amazing to be where I am today.”

Her salon, Beautiful Features, offers all sorts of aesthetic treatments, from anti-wrinkle treatments to derma fillers and fat dissolvers.

Naomi also started her own training academy in January and now

Speaking about her move into the industry, Naomi explained: “I was going to train to be a paramedic until I had children, as it’s long 12-hour shifts and I would never see them. I started doing brows as a side hustle and I just started from there and trained my way up.”

People travel all over Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to have Naomi do their treatments, and she says they have been so supportive of her being a finalist.

She added: “The feedback from everyone has made me feel so good about everything.”

She has around 160 five-star reviews for her business, and says she works hard to provide a “relaxed” and “friendly” environment for customers.

However, she almost didn’t bother applying for this years awards after she didn’t make the cut last year.

She added: “It was a lot of my customers that encouraged me to enter.

“They saw about the awards and told me that I should definitely go for it, but I went for it last year and got rejected so I wasn’t really prepared to do it again.

“Then one of my customers said she started the application for me, and all I needed to do was finish it, so I did.”

She then found out on Monday, March 25, that she was a finalist and is still taking in the news.
