Cheers! Country pub in the running for a regional award

-

A COUNTRY pub that is no stranger to winning awards has triumphed again.

The Plough, in Normanton-on-thewolds, has ben named best pub in Nottinghamshire in the National Pub and Bar Awards.

Winners from 94 counties in the UK have been named. The five in the East Midlands will compete against each other for the regional title, with the winner announced at a ceremony on June 26, along with the overall UK champion.

The Plough, in Old Melton Road, will go head to head with The Railway in Belper, Derbyshire, The Forge Inn, in Leicestershire, The Tollemache Arms, Northampton, and The Olive Branch, in Rutland.

The Plough won Best for Families in the Great British Pub Awards last year and its beer garden was named number one by Nottingham CAMRA.

The pub belongs to the Secret Pub Company, run by David Hage and Mark Osborne, who also own the award-winning Railway, in Lowdham, The Radcliffe, in Radcliffe-on-trent, and The Lambley, in Nottingham.

They said: “We are all so thrilled and proud. Thank you to our incredible team for their professionalism, dedication, passion and hospitality obsession, that has delivered this award. Thank you also to our loyal customers.”

Tristan O’hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which organises the awards, said: “The fact we had record entries for the 2024 awards tells how highly the industry regards these accolades, which is fantastic. But, also, it shows that more operators are in need of really positive and strong publicity to help drive business at the moment.

“Pubs and bars are facing some of the biggest challenges in recent history, so if the National Pub & Bar Awards can help by lifting sales across these venues, then we’re delighted to play our part.”
