Cake maker is shutting up shop this summer – but she vows to bake on

-

THE owner of a celebration cake shop has announced its closure.

After seven years in business, Bakezilla’s Bespoke Cakes, in Derby Road, Stapleford, will close on August 12.

But owner Becs Sheard has assured customers that she is still carrying on the business she loves.

Becs, who recently moved back to her home town of Mirfield, West Yorkshire, will be working from her studio there and has promised to fulfil all existing orders.

She said: “Do not panic, I love my job too much to stop!

“However, after many months of sleepless nights and deliberation, I have made the very hard and sad decision to close the Stapleford store after what has been seven fantastic years.

“Orders are not affected - your wedding cakes are safe with me.”

In a message on Facebook she said: “As many of you know, I recently moved back home to my after many difficult years of working extremely hard to build a better future for my young family.

“I have operated over the two locations since I started making cakes 10 years ago, and as much as this has helped me build an amazing following and two unreal client bases, it is mentally and physically draining trying to juggle the logistics of it and in recent months has become more challenging keeping everyone happy and in turn has started to effect my mental wellbeing.

“With the ever rising costs of utilities, ingredients, and materials, it has lead me to no other option but to cut down on some overheads, the main one being the Stapleford store which I am no longer able to use to its full potential.

“My passion is, and always will be, wedding cakes, and this is the direction I hope to move the business in. As wedding cakes require my personal delivery and set up service, I will continue to serve all the Midlands areas alongside my Yorkshire venues too.

“I will still be in Stapleford and Nottingham a few times a week due to family links, so if you are still wanting a smaller cake after the shop closes, and you’re flexible with collection dates, we can possibly make something happen.

“However I will be closing the online store for Stapleford collections so please message me to discuss this option.”

Becs is hoping to restart a postal service for brownies and blondies and is looking at selling them at pop-up stalls and markets.

She added: “Over the next few months I will be sorting out the entire contents of my shop, so there may be items for sale that I’ve accumulated over the years, so please keep your eyes peeled.

“Thank you to each and every person that has ever purchased anything from me over the years, especially through the lockdowns – your loyalty and support has always meant the world to me.”
