Convoy of over 50 cars and motorbikes to hit the road in Grace’s honour
A CONVOY of more than 50 cars and motorbikes will take to the roads in honour of Nottingham attacks victim Grace O’malley Kumar.
Grace, along with fellow student Barnaby Webber and school caretaker Ian Coates, was killed by Valdo Calocane in the early hours of June 13 last year.
The Ride of Remembrance will be dedicated to the University of Nottingham student and will involve vehicles making the 120-mile trip from North Weald Airfield in Essex to Newark Showground. The primary goal is to raise funds for the Grace O’malley-kumar Foundation, established in her name.
The event, on Sunday, May 19, will start at 11am but gates will open at 8am providing an opportunity for riders, drivers and pedestrians to gather.
To participate in the ride of remembrance and contribute to the cause, the entrance fee is £10 per bike rider or £15 for those riding with a pillion passenger.
Organisers have reminded participants that if they have paid in advance through the online link they will still need to show proof of purchase upon arrival to maintain smooth and safe parking for all.
For car drivers the cost is £10 per car or £15 if there is more than one person in the car.
A spokesperson for the event said: “Grace had a special connection with motorbikes, particularly her beloved Vespa. Let’s come together as a biking community to make this day truly special for her family and to ensure that Grace’s memory lives on in a way that would make her proud.”
Riders and drivers will be escorted by Essex Police and Nottingham Blood Bikes.
The route will go from North Weald on to the A414 towards the M11, continue on the M11 to the A14 and go on to the A1 towards Peterborough.
There will be a planned stop at Peterborough services at 1pm, where other riders can join.
The convoy will then continue back on the A1 to the A46 towards Newark/lincoln/sleaford A17 continuing on the A46 towards Coddington and arrive at Newark Showground at around 2pm.
There, there will be refreshments, entertainment and fundraising activities. Tickets can be bought online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ grace-omalley-kumar-foundation
