Bagel Project to launch ‘site number two’

WORK is under way to transform a vacant Sherwood bakery into a second shop for The Bagel Project.

The bagel supremos opened in Nottingham in May last year and are no ready to expand.

The owners posted a video on Instagram teasing the new location, showing the premises being ripped apart. It didn’t take long for locals to guess the location was the former Bakehouse, and more recently, the Good Honest Bakery, in Mansfield Road.

They said: “Site number two. We’ll be opening another Bagel Project in Nottingham very soon. Over the next few weeks we’ll be updating you on the fit-out works! Any guesses where this might be?”

The Gaztronome responded: “The old Bakehouse/honest Bakery/third time lucky.” The Atrium Bar & Kitchen commented: “Sherwood, the best place to be.”

A woman who is moving to Sherwood next month wrote: “I’m going to cry from happiness!” while another said: “I was incredibly sad when Good Honest Bakery closed, but this will be such a treat to have in place. Best of luck and can’t wait to visit.”

The premises have been associated with bread since The Bakehouse opened in 2016 when Craig Poynter began making awardwinning artisan loaves and cakes. When it closed, it wasn’t long before the Good Honest Bakery set up shop and once again focaccia, sourdough, pecan buns and Bakewell tarts were baked on-site. The bakery and cafe closed down for good over Christmas, blaming rising costs.

The Bagel Project, which features in Nottinghamshire Live’s Top 50 best restaurants and cafes list, has had five-star reviews since it opened in Carlton Street, Hockley. The menu includes bagels with salmon and cream cheese, all-day breakfast and mozzarella pesto, plus specials of honey sriracha chicken and salt beef.
