We have to choose between EU and USA
THE worst thing about Brexit is that it has put us at the whims of the USA.
It can legitimately be said that Donald Trump is building an army of followers who will overthrow democracy by force if necessary.
Following Brexit, our Government now finds itself between a rock and a hard-case. Joe Biden is clearly losing his faculties and no Democrat politician is showing the toughness required to defeat Trump’s army.
The USA’S shall-we, shan’t-we, attitude towards aid for Ukraine is indicative of their previous record of grudging involvement in European matters.
We need to make a decision on whether strengthening our relationship with Europe or being the glove puppets of the USA – who’ll use us as they are in the Israel/ Gaza conflict – is going to be most beneficial for us.
We have our financial and moral hands full in our support of a clearly wronged Ukraine and we cannot afford to weaken that support by getting involved in the morally unjust destruction of Gaza and its people.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that a Russian victory in Ukraine will impact upon us, or that Israel is making matters much worse in the Middle East.
A strong Jewish lobby in the USA is driving their actions, and extreme Israeli Jewish politicians are driving their’s. We must in no uncertain terms tell the USA we can only afford to be involved in one conflict – the ethical defence of an innocent Ukraine.
We should also dwell on the fact that Trump has threatened to pull the USA out of Nato.
Keeping our fingers crossed is not a plan.
We have to decide what is in our best interests – an uncertain relationship with a possibly Trumpled USA, or a strong relationship with a Nato and Eu-included Ukraine. Roger Watts via email
