A COUPLE have created a stunning vineyard in the countryside that leaves visitors feeling like they have just been on holiday abroad.

In addition to the vineyard tours and wine tasting, the site is also home to five glamping pods, which are perfect for a peaceful weekend away.

Rob Kalisiak and his wife Louise bought the land in Stanton on the Wolds in 2019, and the following year they started work planting the vineyard. He said: “My wife and I went travelling and as part of that we went to Italy as I have family there.

“Whilst there we worked in different vineyards and bed and breakfasts, and we did that for three months before coming back to the UK. wanted to bring some of my Italian heritage back with us.”

Rob’s family in Italy were apple growers going back at least five generations, but they have also had vines and would make their own wine. This is what gave Rob the idea to create the Wolds Wine Estate.

He explained: “We planted the vineyard in 2020 and we managed to get our first harvest last year, so our first wines will be ready in the next month or so, which is really exciting.

“The glamping started up in 2021, just after lockdown and all the glamping pods have one or two bedrooms, a kitchen, toilets and showers, and they overlook the vineyard so have great views.”

He said couples, families, friends and even hen parties have stayed in the pods.

The glamping pods, which start at £125 a night, have a shared back garden which is fully fenced, as well as a private patio or balcony, and a fire pit.

One recent review stated: “Lovely pod with everything you need. Amazing location and no better way to spend your day sitting on the sun deck looking at the vines with a bottle of wine. Will be back.”

Regarding the feedback they have been getting from visitors and glamping guests, Rob said: “It’s been really positive, they have all said they come to enjoy the peace and quiet and they feel they could be in a different country.

“Even people that live locally say it’s a great place to come and relax.”

In the future, the couple are hoping to expand with a new building which will be a larger winery as well as an event and tasting space.

The vineyard tours they currently run become incredibly busy in the summer, and they try to do events all year round, such as pop-up food and wine evenings, retreats and educational courses.
