Sarr could be on market once again
NOTTINGHAM Forest could be set to revisit a move for former Watford forward Ismaila Sarr amid claims they and Crystal Palace are keen on a deal this summer.
Forest were linked with Sarr in 2023 and again in January this year. Now L’equipe are claiming the Reds are in for him once again.
Palace have already reportedly made an offer for the attacker who has endured a tricky time in France after moving to Marseille for an undisclosed fee last summer.
A fee of around £10m might be enough to tempt Marseille to part company and would lead Sarr back to the Premier League where he was once considered hot property.
He had been linked with Liverpool but that move never materialised. Marseille are said to be keen on a permanent deal but would not be against the prospect of a loan with an option to buy in order to free them of his salary.
That might tempt some Premier League clubs to take the bait and L’equipe say the interest so far has come from Forest and Palace.
Sarr rose to prominence at Watford, who paid £27m for the striker and he scored 33 League goals during a four-year spell at Vicarage Road. But since moving to France, he has made only 23 league appearances, scoring three goals.
NEWCASTLE United boss Eddie Howe admits Elliot Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest did not sit “comfortably” with him.
But he says the Tyneside club were forced into doing business.
The Reds completed a £35m swoop for the playmaker last month.
Newcastle had to let the talented starlet leave Tyneside because, like Forest, they had to comply with PSR rules, which have been a frustration for several clubs in the Premier League so far this summer.
Their loss has been Forest’s gain, however, and, speaking to Newcastle’s Youtube channel, Toon boss Howe addressed the move.
“Elliot was very sad for us because he is a player that we loved, both on and off the pitch. Everyone here at Newcastle has worked so hard to develop him and his talents,” said Howe.
“And through PSR, really, we have had to, the club has been forced into a decision through no fault of his own. Yeah, it didn’t sit comfortably with me but it was almost something we had to do.
“We had no choice. We wish Elliott well. I am sure he will go on to have an unbelievable career.”
