Stars of London Concours announced

A class featuring iconic British car designs is set to be one of the star categories at the London Concours, which takes place at the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the City of London on 8-10 June. Now in its fifth year and swapping its traditiona­l two-day format for three, the event will showcase Malcolm Sayer’s Jaguar E-type Series I, Charles Spencer-King’s Range Rover and Ian Cameron’s Rolls-Royce Phantom among others such as Alec Issigonis’s Mini, Gordon Murray’s LCC Rocket, Aston Martin One-77 by Marek Reichman, Morgan Aeromax by Matthew Humphries, Frank Stephenson’s McLaren 12C and Peter Stevens’s Jaguar XJR-15. Other classes include 200mph supercars, a Porsche celebratio­n, the most beautiful Italian Berlinetta­s of the1960s, and The Youngtimer­s, the most powerful German saloons of the 1980s and ’90s. E-type celebratio­n…

A Jaguar E-type 60th birthday party will take place at Bowcliffe Hall, Yorks on 13-14 July. Organised by The Fast Lane Club, it will feature a 60-car concours and a host of special Jaguar guests. The main event takes place on the 14th, limited to 300 guests at £49 a head. The previous day’s driving tour and special dinner for 120 VIPs and selected guests costs £799 for two (inc room). …and exhibition

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust ( JDHT) has unveiled a new E-type Evolution Exhibition at the British Motor Museum, featuring cars from C-type to E-type Series III Group 44 racer. The museum is set to reopen on 17 May; the exhibition will run to the end of June.

RIP Robert ‘Kas’ Kastner The man behind the phrase ‘never be beaten by your equipment’, Kastner will be remembered best for his associatio­n with Standard Triumph, being credited with making its cars go quicker than the factory ever could. He was therefore asked to found a US comps department, which prompted his associatio­n with Bob Tullius. ‘Kas’ later went solo and also worked for Nissan but spent his entire life in racing.

RIP David Sutton

The rally driver turned prep-guru turned championsh­ip-winning privateer mastermind was instrument­al in the latter days of Ford’s rally programme. David Sutton Cars inherited the team when Ford pulled out, and enjoyed considerab­le success running Ari Vatanen (co-driven by David Richards) before switching loyalty to Audi and its new Quattro.
