GARRICK S4

Founded by watch expert David Brailsford and watchmaker Simon Michlmayr, Garrick has been quietly getting on with building top-drawer watches since 2013. Its new S4 is really Garrick’s ‘entry level’ watch. Quite some entry level: each S4 is built to order, the hands are heat – not chemical – blued, and the 904L stainless case (it’s more scratch-resistant than 316L) is UK-made. The dials are hand-turned and hand-finished to a standard that will give a few Swiss firms the heebie-jeebies. That guilloché work on the small seconds dial? All by hand, too. At £4995 there is, unsurprisingly, already a waiting list. garrick.co.uk

NOMOS CLUB AUTOMAT

The Club has been a Nomos staple since the Glashütte maker’s early days. Originally a single model with a Nomos Alpha hand-winding movement (essentially a modified Peseux 7001 made in Nomos’s workshops), the range has expanded in size, movement choice and design. As well as 36mm and 38mm, you can have your Club in 41.5mm and with a DUW 5001 movement, the first self-winding Nomos calibre, introduced in 2005 (pictured). The Onyx on a bracelet comes in at £2240, with textile-strapped Navy and Olive at £1960. It’s not often a bracelet justifies the price difference, but it does here. nomos-glashuette.com

CITIZEN CALIBER 0200

Ever since Citizen bought Swiss movement maker La Joux Perret in 2012, watch-heads have been waiting for something like this. Citizen is usually known for bulletproof, solar-powered Eco-Drive watches, and most wouldn’t associate the firm with beautifully finished chronometergrade automatic movements. Yet the Caliber 0200 ticks all the boxes: graining on the movement plates, anglage (bevelled edges), engine turning, a free-sprung balance running at 28,800bph. The only downside is you can’t get your hands on one until autumn. The Octane watch desk’s calendar is already marked. Price TBC. citizenwatch.co.uk
