Back once more to stir up trouble is comedian David Walliams. But when he’s not winding Simon up, he’s spending time with son Alfred, five, that he shares with former wife Lara Stone.

Here, David, 47, reveals some backstage secrets and speaks of his joy of having Ant back where he belongs…

How have auditions been this year?

There have been loads of surprises and really talented people. As much as you like people with stories, you do need people to be talented as well, it is a talent competition. What I love is sometimes they wander on and do the most random things.

How has it been having Ant back?

It was lovely to see how excited people were to see them [Ant and Dec] together. It was really emotional and I was pleased for them. It was just how it always was.

You’re all good mates so it must be easy to work together...

Ant and Dec are really nice blokes and they are ‘what you see is what you get’ type of people. It’s not like they have a persona that’s different to how they are on TV, they’re just so natural and themselves. It was nice being back together. I love being around those two. I feel a kinship with them because I’ve known them for about 25 years as I started off writing for them. I know that they’re a hundred times more successful than me, but we’re in the same mould, as in we’re interested in comedy and entertainment and all those things. Our background is acting, sketches and silly shows. I love to spend time with them.

Looking to the live shows, what are you most looking forward to?

I just love the fact you can’t prepare for anything, as a judge you just have to turn up and see what happens. It feels like the eyes of the country are on you and that room is the most exciting place you can be that week, so I really look forward to that.

‘BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT’ STARTS SATURDAY APRIL 6 AT 7:15PM ON ITV. FOLLOWED BY ‘BRITAIN’S GOT MORE TALENT’ AT 8:35PM ON ITV2
