‘WE FELT VERY AT HOME THERE’
THE BECKHAMS FOUND THEIR FAIRY-TALE WEDDING LOCATION IN LUTTRELLSTOWN CASTLE
Set in 567 acres of peaceful parkland, Luttrellstown Castle, just outside Dublin, provided the perfect backdrop for David and Victoria’s big day. Victoria’s parents, Jackie and Tony Adams, alongside the couple’s wedding planner Peregrine Armstrong-jones, scoured the UK for three and a half months to find their dream venue. They hoped to find a location that offered the ultimate in seclusion and privacy, and the castle – which had previously been hired as a weekend escape by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman – ticked all the boxes.
The 15th-century fortress, which has 12 unique bedrooms and boasts its own golf course, was once the home of Henry Luttrell, the second Earl of Carhampton. More recently it was home to Aileen Plunkett, daughter of Arthur Guinness, of the famous Irish brewing family. It is now co-owned by JP Mcmanus and John Magnier.
‘Victoria wanted somewhere really private and unique, somewhere green and leafy, deep in the countryside,’ revealed Peregrine at the
time of the wedding. Victoria added: ‘I really liked the fact that all the rooms at Luttrellstown were sunny and it had a happy atmosphere. As soon as I saw the castle, I thought to myself, this is the place.’ Meanwhile, David added: ‘We spent a lot of time in Ireland and felt very at home there.’
The wedding ceremony itself was held inside the castle’s folly, perched above a stream 500 metres from the main castle. Victoria told OK! at the time: ‘There isn’t a church on the estate, so we had to find a location on the premises that we could get licensed for a marriage ceremony. We found the folly, which was in a complete state. But we just looked at each other and said: “This is the place.”’
Most recently, Luttrellstown – which is currently undergoing a multi-million pound renovation to increase the bedroom total to 20 by next April – played host to Ed Sheeran during his Irish tour.
