VINTAGE OK! Good Morning Britain’s SUSANNA REID AND KATE GARRAWAY
IN 2015 SUSANNA REID and KATE GARRAWAY talked about piers morgan JOINING them for breakfast
Susanna Reid was blissfully unaware that she was about to spend most weekday mornings engaging in lively debates with TV veteran Piers Morgan for the foreseeable future. But she told OK! she was ‘very excited’ about the addition, saying: ‘He’s lovely.
Expect the unexpected – he’ll be making all sorts of headlines. He’s a force of energy.’ She was definitely right about that, with Piers causing controversy over a multitude of subjects – from his distaste of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll to criticising Little Mix’s clothing choices – with Susanna often taking the opposing view. It makes for great breakfast TV.
During our shoot, Susanna and her Good Morning Britain colleague Kate also discussed the pressure to look a certain way on camera. ‘It’s a woman thing!’ Kate, now 52, exclaimed. ‘I spend a lot of time looking in the mirror, pulling at my face and wishing I looked this way or that way, but I remember feeling exactly the same at 38
and weirdly at 28, too. You have just got to appreciate what you’ve got.’
Susanna, now 48, was happy to be getting older. ‘It’s a blessing. We’ve all lost loved ones, so I try to see it as a privilege to be celebrating another birthday.’
Happily married Kate, who has children Darcey, 13, and William, nine, with husband Derek Draper, gave us an insight into her marriage too. ‘Our secret is that Derek is very tolerant of me, bless him. We also laugh a lot, we’re both homebodies and take pleasure in the fact that we have this beautiful family.’
Susanna had recently split from partner Dominic Cotton, who she shares sons Sam, 17, Finn, 15 and Jack, 14, with. She most recently dated Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, with Piers confirming both the start and end of their relationship on air! Who needs enemies, with friends like Piers?
