SUSHISAMBA

WHAT IS IT?

Take a break from the crowds in London’s Covent Garden and climb up the spiral staircase into Sushisamba’s vibrant rooftop restaurant, which serves a fusion of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisines. This gastronomic delight is located at the renowned Opera Terrace, within Covent Garden’s extraordinary Grade Ii-listed market.

WHY DO WE LOVE IT?

Camera phones at the ready! This colourful Insta-worthy eatery has been designed blending South American and Japanese themes. OK! loved how the glasshouse ceiling gave us the feeling of having a table under the stars. The theme of bringing the outdoors in is evident throughout the building, with tropical foliage draping the walls. The vibrant velvet blue seating and art-deco lampshades complete the restaurant’s stylish, elegant and charming aesthetic. Plus, there’s an indulgent menu with a huge selection of divine food to match. OK! began the tapas-style experience with a selection of small dishes, including rich wagyu gyoza with sesame snow and sweet soy, followed by crispy taquito shells filled with yummy yellowtail fish, avocado and roasted corn miso. Sushisamba’s signature Samba Covent Garden sushi rolls were the star of the show, with a melt-in-the-mouth combination of soft shell crab, hamachi, yuzu tobiko, bonito flakes, avocado, asparagus and yuzu miso. The new younger sister of Sushisamba’s renowned Heron Tower location offers up an eclectic assortment of sweet treats. We loved the refreshing kudamona exotic fruit salad, served with cherry crisp, watermelon granita and green tea gel; a perfect end to a delicious meal.

WHO GOES?

This gorgeous venue attracted The Mummy Diaries star Sam Faiers, who visited for a clothing launch and dinner. Other stars who have visited the London hotspot include Claudia Winkleman, Paloma Faith and Professor Green.

WHAT ELSE?

Whether you need a mid-shop pick me up or you’ve completed a heavy spending spree in the capital, trying a refreshing cocktail from Sushisamba’s extensive menu is a must. Our favourite was the green tea and peach bellini – or for a fiery kick, try the tom yam. The energising gin cocktail is served in a long glass and mixed with coriander, chilli, lemongrass, ginger syrup and citrus juices. Not for the faint hearted!
