BEVERLEY CALLARD CELEBRATES HER ENGAGEMENT TO JON MCEWAN

Third time lucky might be the usual mantra, but for Beverley Callard four is the magic number. Nine years ago, OK! celebrated with Bev, when she became engaged to her fourth husband Jon Mcewan, and the two are still very happily married!
‘I thought I’d never do it again,’ revealed Coronation Street actress Bev, who has played landlady Liz Mcdonald for 30 years. However, she realised Jon was something special when he became her rock through difficult times, including depression, low self-esteem issues and suicidal thoughts. ‘I hated myself so much, I just wanted him to leave me because I couldn’t understand why he would stay, but he wouldn’t go,’ said Bev, now 62. Jon, now 53, added: ‘It was the worst time I could possibly imagine.’
The couple were happy to come out the other side of Bev’s dark
period, and Jon proposed in a beach bar in Spain, where they’d met seven years previously on a blind date. ‘I felt quite giddy actually, and that’s not like me at all,’ Jon said of the moment.
The couple didn’t waste any time, and planned their big day for October that year, which was exclusively covered by OK!. ‘I might have been married three times before, but I’ve never had a big wedding,’ Bev told us. ‘We want to shout our happiness from the rooftops.’ They certainly did that with Bev choosing 22 bridesmaids, including OK! columnist Kym Marsh, and Loose Women stars Coleen Nolan and Denise Welch, as they wed at Hazlewood Castle in North Yorkshire. However, the 22nd bridesmaid, actress Katherine Kelly, sadly couldn’t make it due to illness.
