‘THE CURRENT WAR’ (12A)

Returning to the big screen for another historical drama, Benedict Cumberbatch wows as electricity titan Thomas Edison. The film sees inventors Edison and George Westinghouse – played by Michael Shannon – battle to win the infamous 19th-century ‘Current War’, the race to power a nation and light up the world. Perhaps most enjoyable is the intense on-screen rivalry between the two, as they compete to become the father of modern technology. The film is poignant and experimental, and a must-see for fans of clever wit and impressive cinematography. Also starring Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Hoult as futurist engineer Nikola Tesla. ★★★★ SW OUT July 26
