Curtis Pritchard has been at the centre of some of Love Island’s most explosive storylines. After the departure of his ‘half girlfriend’ Amy Hart, he found himself in a love triangle with Maura Higgins and Francesca Allen. But last week the dancer finally decided to put all his eggs in Maura’s basket!
The experience has been an emotional roller coaster for Curtis, but thankfully when he emerges from the villa he’ll have the support of his childhood friend Chloe Hewitt.
‘Growing up we were inseparable,’ says Strictly Come Dancing professional Chloe, who’s known Curtis for 14 years. ‘I danced with his brother AJ, so I was around their family constantly. The three of us were the best of friends and still are to this day.’
Chloe is proud of Curtis, 23, for doing the ‘right thing’ and ending his relationship with Amy. ‘I think she’ll look back and be grateful that he was honest with her,’ Chloe says.
Here Chloe, also 23, opens up to OK! about growing up with Curtis, missing him while he’s in the villa and whether she thinks his relationship with Maura Higgins is the real deal...
What do you think of Curtis and Maura?
I can tell Curtis is into Maura. I’m starting to warm to them, but I’m not convinced the relationship will work on the outside. It could be a summer romance and then they come back to reality. I do believe Maura likes him. Why do you think it might not work?
Their lives are very different and they’re opposite in what they want. I love that Maura is upfront and feisty but I think she’s a bit overpowering. He’s found a bit of fun in Maura; Curtis is thinking about the now and not the future. I wanted him to go for Francesca because there might’ve been a bit more longevity there.
Is Maura the type of girl Curtis usually goes for?
A hundred per cent. She’s gorgeous but she also seems to have a lot of layers and that would be intriguing to him. He would see her as a bit of a challenge.
They appeared to have sex for the first time last week... Before he went into the villa I said to him: ‘I want you to promise me that you won’t have sex on television.’ He said: ‘I promise!’ I’ll be having words with him when he comes out if it’s true. I was cringing when he was talking to Tommy [Fury] about it. I had my fingers in my ears. I feel sorry for his mum!
Were you cringing when he called Maura a ‘naughty girl’? Just a bit! And everyone’s talking about him keeping his
socks on in bed! It’s so weird for me. He told me he’d always be aware of the cameras but I think he got very comfortable in that moment.
Is Curtis usually a player?
Not at all. He likes attention but he’s never had two girls on the go before!
What’s your reaction to people calling him a sociopath over his treatment of Amy?
It’s so shocking. He’s not a sociopath. He’s the polar opposite.
How do you think he really felt when Amy walked out of the villa?
He would’ve been heartbroken. He never wanted to intentionally hurt Amy and he’d be really upset if he lost Amy as a friend. I think he got too caught up with her as it was so intense and it freaked him out. I don’t think Curtis knew how much Amy loved him. I’m proud of him, despite the backlash he’s had. He did the right thing.
What was Curtis like growing up?
He’s always been the life and soul of the party. He has a really infectious personality.
Have you ever dated?
No, that would have been weird, but I can’t say what will happen in the future. It’s strange watching him every night and not being able to tell him he’s doing a good job.
