During her acting career, Anne Hathaway has starred in some iconic films, including The Devil Wears Prada, The Princess Diaries and One Day. The 36 year old is now taking on a love story with a difference in new Amazon series Modern Love. The romantic comedy series is based on the New York Times column of the same name, with each episode focusing on a standalone true story that explores love in all its forms. In Anne’s episode Take Me As I Am she plays a bipolar woman named Lexi, who needs to learn why she’s worthy of a relationship.

Away from work, Anne has a love story of her own with husband and fellow actor Adam Shulman. The couple already share threeyear-old son Jonathan, and they recently announced they were expecting their second child. To reveal their exciting news Anne posted a selfie with her growing bump on Instagram (left) and wrote: ‘It’s not for a movie... #2,’ before being refreshingly honest about her struggle: ‘All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.’ She said of the brave post: ‘I was just aware of the fact that when it came time to post that I was pregnant, somebody was going to feel even more isolated because of it. I just wanted them to know they have a sister in me.’

Here Anne talks about pregnancy, ‘baby brain’ and online dating…

Congratulations on your pregnancy, Anne. How are you feeling?

I’m feeling great. Everything’s going well, although I’m happy to be sitting down right now!

How does this pregnancy compare to your first? Oh, pregnancies are all wonderful. It’s different for everybody, so I have a hard time saying a blanket statement that covers every single pregnancy. It depends on the person and the pregnancy. For me, I’m doing fine. I’m happy.

Have you experienced ‘baby brain’ at all?

I can focus on certain things and that’s fine – but there are certain things that my brain refuses to allow, such as directions and things like that. If you describe something to me, like a shape, or you spell something, I can’t go there. I have a hard time recalling certain words, too. I’ve become that spinny wheel of death on your computer whenever people are talking to me! I feel very taxing to be around.

Your new Amazon show is called Modern Love

– what is the key to a long-lasting relationship? Oh, gosh. In my case, it’s all down to being married to my husband – but I don’t think that helps other people.

You’ve been married since 2012, but how do you think you would handle modern dating in this day and age?

I think I’d have a good time in the modern landscape. I honestly do! I think I’d find it baffling and maybe even painful at times, but I could also see myself having some fun with it.

Would you be good at swiping right?

I know plenty of people who have met on a dating website. At the beginning of this change to online dating, it might have been a little strange but now I think it’s becoming much more commonplace.

Apart from your friends and family, what things in life do you love the most right now? I’m a fairly simple girl. I’m always very happy whenever you grab a beach blanket in one hand and your kid in the other one – along with a couple of snacks – and you go and spend the day at the beach. I’ve been really having a lot of fun with that recently.

The show is set in New York. How would you describe a perfect day in the city with your family?

I like to have a nice walk with my husband and my son; especially when the weather is nice. One of the things we like to do is let our son lead, so if he wants to go down on the subway, then we go to the subway. If he wants to get off, he gets off and we get on the bus when he wants to. You will never run out of things to do in New York.

What are your thoughts on the Time’s Up movement? How has it affected you?

I think equality benefits everyone. It’s about safety and equality in the workplace – and I hope there are no more examples of why we need this because there have been so many painful and heartbreaking stories. I stand in solidarity with all of my sisters in every place of work, and in their private homes. We need equality and we need safety. I applaud the movement.

‘MODERN LOVE’ IS COMING TO AMAZON IN OCTOBER.
