‘DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY’
MICHELLE KEEGAN TALKS ABOUT FASHION, WORKOUTS AND TAKEAWAYS!
Since taking a leap of faith and leaving the security of the Coronation Street cobbles in 2014, Michelle Keegan’s CV has read like an action and adventure novel you can’t put down. She’s travelled the world as an Army medic in BBC drama Our Girl, and embraced life from the ‘50s through to the ’80s as Tina Moore in ITV drama Tina And Bobby.
Now, having just celebrated her fourth wedding anniversary to husband Mark Wright, and finished filming another action-packed series of Our Girl, the 32-year-old actress has found time to front the new Adidas range for Very, and we can’t think of anyone better suited to the role. Here, the star shares her hacks for staying in shape, style tips for nailing ‘athleisure’ and learning to be comfortable in her own skin…
How has your relationship with your body and staying in shape changed over the years?
As I’ve got older, I’ve definitely become more comfortable in my own skin and more confident in who I am. There is so much pressure to look a certain way and I think it can be really harmful. We are all different and beautiful as we are.
What do you rely on to make you feel good about yourself?
Most importantly, do what makes you happy! See friends and family, and take time out for yourself, doing what you love. Rest and get as much fresh air as possible, and make sure you still enjoy the occasional glass of wine and takeaway. Life without a Chinese takeaway just isn’t worth living!
Do you have a workout routine? I really don’t have a set routine. I tend to work out when I’m in the
mood and not put too much pressure on myself. I like doing group classes as I enjoy working out with other people and it’s a really fun social environment. I love the satisfaction you get after a spin or HIIT class and I always feel a sense of achievement. If I’m not feeling like doing lots of cardio, I’ll opt for a gentle flow yoga class.
Tell us a little bit about your beauty regime…
I always use a good moisturiser in the morning and before I go to bed. I try to let my skin breathe as much as possible and I use a face mask once a week, if I have time. I also always make sure I take my make-up off before bed.
What is your post-workout skin routine? I always avoid make-up if I’m working out! It’s about being as comfortable as I can be. I always tend to carry a moisturiser, lip balm and a highlighter with me, in case I need them.
Do you wear exercise clothes outside the gym?
Yes, I love wearing athleisure. I think mixing relaxed looks with trendy pieces means you can be chic and comfy at the same time – especially with this new Adidas range, it’s so versatile and cool. I can definitely see myself wearing it when I’m out and about, at meetings or catching up with friends.
Tell us about the Adidas range for Very you’re modelling this season… It’s a twist on the old classics, so there are some pieces in there you will really recognise and some that are slightly more unexpected and really cool. I love the way they have experimented with their colours and patterns, making it a really exciting collection.
‘i try to let my skin breathe as much as possible’
Pre-workout I always try to have a small bowl of porridge with chopped banana or a shake to give me some slow-burning energy. Post-workout, I love having a delicious salad with some protein.
