ANNA WILLIAMSON
THE ‘CELEBS GO DATING’ STAR, 38, ON WORKING OUT WHILE SIX MONTHS PREGNANT AND HER HUSBAND’S PDA BAN!
Are you exercising much through pregnancy? Yes, it’s a myth that you shouldn’t, and midwives now actively encourage it. I’ve been doing weight resistance, walking, squats and lunges, just to keep fit.
What’s your favourite kind of exercise? Before I had a child [son Enzo, three] it was running, but your pelvic floor takes a bit of a wallop during birth so I can’t run very well any more. I really enjoy weight resistance, weight training and HIIT classes. A gym visit helps me focus, but logistically it’s easier to do a 20-minute workout at home when Enzo’s having a wind down. That child is wired with Duracell batteries and sugar [laughs]. He’s very energetic!
Who’s your favourite person to work out with? My husband [Alex Di Pasquale]. It’s how I met him – he’s an exceptional personal trainer. I feel really lucky that I have his expertise around me, not that I listen to him much any more. It’s tough being married to a PT because you’ve always got someone on your case! His pet peeve is when we’re in the gym together and I start trying to kiss him. The gym is a no PDA zone!
Does he do lots of cooking?
Yes, as a certified nutritionist he’s good at cooking nutritious food. He also has Italian heritage and does some great Italian dishes.
What’s your signature dish to cook?
It’s a cliché but I love doing a roast dinner with all the trimmings. And one-pot meals.
Has your taste changed with pregnancy?
Yes. Lots of people crave food but I’m the opposite, I have a decreased appetite. I’ve gone off meat and prefer a vegetarian diet. I crave fish fingers and cold apples.
How do you find time to keep fit? Planning. It’s not always easy, but it’s all about prioritising work, health and family. You need to take time out, disconnect from emails, eat a healthy diet and get plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Does exercise improve your mental health? Without a doubt. I definitely feel more anxious when I haven’t been exercising, but when I exercise I feel a physical and mental lift.
What’s your favourite thing about yourself?
I’m open-minded about everything and I don’t form judgements easily. It leads to a more peaceful life.
