John Crowley’s film The Goldfinch – based on the Donna Tartt novel of the same name – features a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman, Ansel elgort and Sarah paulson. It tells the story of Theo Decker (elgort), whose life is turned upside down following the death of his mother in a New York art gallery bombing. With a traumatic childhood and a life fuelled by drugs and crime, Theo’s only sense of happiness is the Carl Fabritius painting – The Goldfinch – which he takes from the demolished art gallery. poignant and touching, it’s an epic tale of heartbreak, loss and hope.
