Super-tanned and sparkly-toothed Rylan Clark-neal is one of the hardest working men in show business. After coming fifth on The X Factor in 2012, the 30 year old has gone on to host Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, This Morning
and, more recently, Supermarket Sweep.
He also presents the Saturday afternoon Radio 2 slot previously filled by Zoe Ball and is now joining her to co-host Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.
Here Rylan, who’s married to former Big Brother contestant Dan Neal, shares his excitement about this year’s series...
Are you a Strictly fan?
I’ve watched Strictly every single year. I think the only year I didn’t watch it was when I was on The X Factor – I was a bit busy in 2012! But apart from that, I’ve always watched it. Strictly is a machine, it’s a beast! It’s the biggest show on TV, I was thrilled I was allowed to come to watch the show, let alone work on it! It’s a massive honour.
How do you think you’ll work as a duo with Zoe? Oh, fantastic. Literally it will be the easiest job I’ll ever do. I can just sit there and look at Zoe. She’s a pro!
You’ve been in TV competitions before – do you have any tips for handling harsh comments from the judges?
Take it all on the chin and try to do the best you can possibly do. It’s the same with the public – everyone will have something to say. This time next year they’ll be saying it about someone else!
Are you much of a dancer yourself?
I used to dance when I was younger so I think I would be okay. But I’d have to be partnered with someone really tall because I’m 6ft 4in!
