104 HOTSPOT JEAN-GEORGES AT THE CONNAUGHT, LONDON
WHAT IS IT?
Chef Jean-georges Vongerichten wows celebrities and civilians alike at his restaurant at the decadent Connaught Hotel. Zingy south-east Asian flavours sit alongside British classics at this swish restaurant in the heart of London’s Mayfair.
WHY DO WE LOVE IT?
Dinner is a wonderfully cosy affair in the beautiful dining room, which occupies the front of the hotel. The restaurant is stunning, with soft grey furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows which are accented with stained glass. OK! kicked off proceedings with a chilled flute of Laurent-perrier, said to be the favourite champagne of Kate Moss, who’s a fan of the hotel. Our starter was a sumptuous salad of sweet jumbo prawns
(£25) dressed with champagne vinegar – a luxury twist on a traditional prawn cocktail. Then we feasted on parmesan-crusted organic chicken (£29), washed down with a glorious bottle of
Gavi di Gavi (£65). OK! couldn’t resist the mille-feuille with sweet pecan nuts (£14) for dessert, along with a strong espresso martini. The cocktail was so good that we headed into the luxe The Connaught bar next door for a cheeky nightcap.
WHO GOES?
Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss are fans of The Connaught.
WHAT ELSE?
The staff were attentive and gave welcome advice on how to make amazing cocktails – ditch the ice cubes, as apparently shards of ice chipped from a block make all the difference to a drink. The Connaught Hotel is perfect if you are celebrating a special occasion, and in the run-up to Christmas, the decorations in the grand lobby are well worth a visit alone, with a special ceremony for the unveiling of the tree.
