‘IT’S VERY UNWISE’

-

Angela Levin (right), royal commentator and writer of Harry: Conversations With The

Prince, has criticised Meghan and Harry for speaking so candidly in the documentary.

‘I think it is very unwise,’ she tells OK!, adding: ‘I think there have to be barriers for the sake of politeness and what is appropriate. Unfortunately, she is still thinking in celebrity terms rather than in royal terms and if you are a senior royal you belong to what they all jokingly call “The Firm”, and like any firm you stick to the rules.

‘In my opinion, it’s insulting to the Queen and Prince Charles, who both like Meghan. Not only is it upsetting for the royals, it has taken the focus off both William and Kate’s very successful and important trip to Pakistan and Prince Charles’s engagement in Japan.’

Angela continues: ‘One of the problems is she has worked out who she wants to be and there’s a certain ruthlessness there which you have to have if you are in Los Angeles and climbing up the acting ladder. However, she doesn’t realise she is now in a different place.

‘When she said she was existing not living, I was surprised as she has been on two amazing royal outings: one to Australia and New Zealand and this one to Africa where she has met very important people. She’s gone to dinner with the Clooneys, she’s friends with the Obamas, and Elton John who is a good friend of Harry’s. She lives in luxury and she’s been able to spend £2.4 million [renovating Frogmore Cottage] and has not had to put her hand in her pocket to reach the money herself. She meets the Queen. If you think that’s existing, that’s a very sad position to be in.’
