Kimberley Walsh has a dilemma: to try for another baby or to enjoy her sleep! The former Girls Aloud star is a happy mum to ‘energetic’ sons Bobby, five, and Cole, two, with husband Justin Scott and has been enjoying a demanding career resurgence having recently starred in Big – The Musical.

She still counts Cheryl Tweedy as one of her closest friends, and the former bandmate and judge on BBC reality show The Greatest Dancer came to see Kimberley twice in the West End show opposite The Wanted’s Jay Mcguiness. Cheryl is a regular visitor to her home, too, along with two-year-old son, Bear.

Here, the 2012 Strictly Come Dancing finalist reveals why, despite her bond with Cheryl, she won’t be returning to the band that made her famous and the reason behind her new zest for life…

How is life as a working mum?

Being away from the kids was the hardest part of Big. It might be easier when they’re old enough to understand, but right now I don’t want them to feel like I’m not there. Having family time is important, so for Cole’s third birthday in December, we’ll have everyone over. Cheryl will come with Bear and have cuddles with Cole. She’s a great mum.

Do you support each other?

We support each other in all we do. Cheryl and Nicola [Roberts] were at the opening night of Big and Cheryl came again at the end of the show’s run. It’s always nice as it’s so familiar to have them around. There’s no competition between us. I’m obsessed with The Greatest Dancer and I love Cheryl on it – she’s really excited and delighted that it’s coming back. I would love to be a mentor on a reality show. If the right thing came along, then I would do it.

Would you like more children?

I always thought I’d have four kids, but you have to go with the flow. I think Justin’s okay about having more, so it’s all about timing. The only thing that puts me off is that everyone’s getting sleep again. I have to be realistic as we’ve got two really energetic boys and we’re both working.

You took part in Strictly Come

Dancing in 2012. Do you still watch the show?

I’m obsessed. Watching the Charleston reminds me of doing three cartwheels in a row and having to pop my rib back in! Getting injured is all part of it. It’s come in handy too – Jay and I did ballroom in Big.

Are you still in touch with your dance partner Pasha Kovalev?

He keeps in touch and let me know about his wedding and baby with Rachel [Riley]. I miss him on the show, but maybe it was time for him to take a step back to be a dad. Being a parent brings another level of joy to your life, so I’m really pleased for them. Being a mum is the best thing and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And you look amazing, do you feel good?

I feel the most energised that I have been for a long time. I think it’s because my boys are a bit older, so I’m slightly less exhausted. I had an amazing personal trainer and now I’m back into Reformer Pilates I’m in the best shape ever. It’s inevitable you’re going to lose weight when you’re doing a show

Have you ever considered having cosmetic surgery?

I wouldn’t say never, but not right now. I don’t want to look at myself and go: ‘Oh, my God! What I have done?’ and I don’t want it to look obvious that I’ve had something done. My mum grew old gracefully. I would love to do that.

Do you think Girls Aloud will reform? We don’t have that desire because we had such a long time together and we’ve moved on. It’s a lovely experience to look back on, but nothing we need to revisit.

Would you like to do a solo album?

I have no desire to have a pop album. I’m not in that world any more, which I’m fine with. I’d be up for a musical theatre duets album with Jay though.

How do you feel about ageing?

I’m turning 37 this month, so I’m not far off being 40, but I’ve got to accept it. You moan about something when you’re not happy in life but I’ve got everything anyone could ever want. I’ve had a great career, two gorgeous children and a lovely husband. KIMBERLEY’S FIRST COLLECTION FOR REGATTA WITH MIMOSAS AND MUFFINS IS OUT NOW
