FUNNYMAN ALAN CARR TALKS TO OK! ABOUT NOT HAVING CHILDREN AND HIS CHRISTMAS WISH LIST

ALAN CARR ON GIVING UP BOOZE, SETTLING IN TO MARRIED LIFE AND HIS BIG RETURN TO OUR TV SCREENS

After ten years together, Alan Carr tied the knot with partner Paul Drayton last January in a lavish LA ceremony officiated by his close pal Adele. The comedian revealed the singer went one step further: ‘She said: “I’m paying.” Then she paid for the whole thing!’

Speaking at the ITV Palooza, Alan insists married life is suiting him nicely but says the pair are not planning on having any children. Opening up about whether he’s feeling broody, the star has said: ‘Everyone who has kids looks like sh**. I see people and say, “Are you on crack?” and they’re like, “No I’ve got two kids!” Paul luckily isn’t into kids either.’

After finding fame as a stand-up comedian, Alan went on to host his own chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man with A-list guests including Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.

The show was renowned for being boozy, with Alan often plying his guests with a variety of drinks. During his interview with Mariah Carey, he admitted he got so drunk he couldn’t read his autocue. ‘I had Mariah Carey’s new Champagne, which was about £1,000 a bottle. It was lovely but it was lethal.’

Alan revealed last year however, that he had stopped drinking in support of his husband Paul Drayton, who has battled alcoholism and is now sober.

Here, Alan opens up about married life, bringing back classic British gameshows and his plans for Christmas…

How’s married life? Great, really good, lovely.

Last time we spoke, you’d given up drinking – is that still the case?

I’ve given up drinking, but I have a slight drink every now and then – I’m only human. Whereas before

I’d have some tequila slammers, I’m a bit more classy now. I don’t wake up in a skip.

Are you loving being part of the first season of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK?

You know what, it’s so nice. Of all the shows I’ve done, there’s such a buzz about this. It was proper lockdown in the studio. Even the man who brought me Wagamamas had to sign an NDA. No cameras, no nothing. But it was so exciting. I can’t wait for people to see the final – it’s amazing.

Is your chat show Chatty Man set for a return?

I don’t think it’s going to come back. We did 18 series and it’s a lot of alcohol to get through. But with ITV I’m doing

Epic Gameshow. I’m bringing back Bullseye, Play Your Cards Right, Strike It Lucky and

Take Your Pick. I hope everyone loves Play Your Cards Right,

because it was an absolute scream. I want to do something different, I’m a Gemini I don’t want to do the same old stuff.

Relaxing. I’ve been working so hard, I just want to put my feet up.

Will you be flying out to LA for the holidays? I love this life you think I have! No, I’ll be on a night bus to Birmingham. I wish I could fly to LA, but I’ve got my dogs and my other half at home. He might get a bit p **** d off at Christmas if I just call him and say: ‘Hello, I’m in LA!’

Do you think you and your husband will ever have children?

No chance. I can’t even look after two Irish setter dogs. Kids are like farts, you don’t mind your own. I don’t think I’ll have them. I don’t think I’d make a good dad. But never say never.

And your plans for 2020…

I’m doing a big stand-up tour next year and I want to do the world, because I’ve never done America before. I would love to do a show on Broadway. I don’t know if anyone would turn up. But you never know, with Rupaul’s Drag Race it opens up a whole lot of people who might not know me. I’d love to do New York. Even if it’s off, off, off, off, off, off Broadway show.
