I TESTED POSITIVE BUT THAT DOESN’T MAKE ME IMMUNE

-

My antibody test result was positive, which was what I expected. I suspected I had coronavirus just before lockdown, so it’s good to know I did.

However, my positive result doesn’t change anything in terms of social distancing. We also don’t know how long immunity lasts or if you can catch the virus again. It’s easy to be blasé as a healthy 30-year-old, but I was lucky I didn’t get more unwell with it. For 10 days I had to quarantine myself away from Pete and the kids. I stuck to social distancing and I was only able to wave to them from the top of the stairs!

Myself and Pete also slept in separate bedrooms just to be on the safe side. It was horrible but the family adapted to it really well and I got a big hug at the end.

I had a sore throat and lost my sense of taste and smell for a week. It came on all of sudden when I realised I couldn’t taste my dinner. I put it down to a lack of seasoning, but then I sniffed everything in the fridge and realised I couldn’t smell any of it. At the time loss of taste and smell wasn’t an official symptom so I wasn’t able to get a test. As a doctor I didn’t want to make a drama out of it in case I didn’t actually have Covid-19.
