PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT SUICIDE AREN’T SERIOUS. THEY WON’T GO THROUGH WITH IT PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE THEIR OWN LIFE ARE JUST ATTENTION SEEKING AND SHOULDN’T BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY

Emma says, “When someone’s talking about suicide, that’s actually the biggest invitation to understand that they’re likely to kill themselves. Research suggests that those who go through with it, will undoubtedly have talked about ending their life at some point. The language isn’t as direct as stating ‘I want to kill myself.’ It might be more subtle, such as, ‘I just want the world to end, I don’t want to be here any more.’ My dad didn’t say he wanted to die, but he said he didn’t want to be here. He kept asking us, ‘What would happen if I disappeared?’”

Emma says, “Every single person who says they’re going to take their own life should be taken absolutely seriously. The reason so many people have gone on to kill themselves, is because they haven’t been taken seriously. When someone says they want to end their life, it’s a direct insight into a potential suicide. Every time. We have to listen, always.”
