OUR COLUMNIST ADMITS SHE WAS NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON TV AND BACKS THOSE QUITTING SMOKING

-

Iwent on Loose Women for the first time last week alongside Pete on the ‘Loose Loved Ones’ show. We were on with Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes and they were so welcoming – they really are such a lovely couple! It was great to be on the show but I was so nervous beforehand. I also always worry about what people are going to say, even though I never read comments online.

I think Ruth could see I was a bit nervous so before we went on she was very reassuring and had a long chat with me about how it was going to work and what to expect. She was so lovely. Appearing on TV is not something that comes naturally to me, but I think it’s good once in a while to go out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. I ended up having so much fun and I loved the segment where Pete and Eamonn did our make-up. Pete actually did an okay job, but Ruth wasn’t quite so lucky! It was hilarious. Viewers were also asking about the tattoo on Pete’s neck. Thankfully, it’s not real and is part of some filming he’s doing for a new movie!

I can’t quite believe it’s that time of year again but it’s the first week of Stoptober! The aim is to encourage smokers to quit for the month of October, as it’s then more likely that they will quit for good. This year, more than ever, it’s so important to give up. With flu season coming and the Covid pandemic we all need to be looking after our lungs! I’m personally not a smoker but I’ve seen in friends of mine how difficult it is to give up, even when you are so determined! It’s really worth checking out the Stoptober campaign if you’re thinking of quitting.
