PRINCESS EUGENIE AND JACK BROOKSBANK
PRINCESS EUGENIE AND HER HUSBAND JACK BROOKSBANK FINALLY UNVEIL THEIR BABY BOY TO THE WORLD
In what was no doubt a turbulent week for Her Majesty The Queen, granddaughter Princess Eugenie provided some much-needed joy when she finally released photos of her baby and revealed that she and husband Jack Brooksbank had named him August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.
The couple looked the picture of contentment as they posed with baby August – who is the Queen’s ninth great-grandchild and 11th in line to the throne – in images shared on Eugenie’s Instagram page.
She wrote, “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you. By our wonderful midwife. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.”
The post was soon flooded with messages of congratulations for the couple – who wed in October 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The Royal Family’s official Twitter account shared the images with the caption, “Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank have announced that they have named their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.
“The couple have been touched by the well wishes they have received on the birth of their first child, and are delighted to share this first photo as a family.”
Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson also took to Twitter to share her joy, tweeting, “As Grandparents, The Duke and I are thrilled and blessed at the arrival of our grandson August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. He is a beautiful blessing and a bringer of such love and joy to all our Family. I am so proud of Jack and Eugenie, they are and will be wonderful parents.”
Explaining the significance of the names, Princess Eugenie took to Instagram Stories and wrote, “On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy.
“He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers.”
The decision to honour her grandfather Prince Philip was no doubt made even more poignant as he remained in hospital as OK! went to press. The choice of the name August relates to Queen Victoria’s father Prince Edward Augustus and Hawke to Edward Hawke Brooksbank.
The name August is of Latin origin, meaning “great, magnificent” and the month of August was named after the Emperor Augustus.
It was also chosen in 2019 by Prince Ernst August and his wife Princess Ekaterina of Hanover as one of the names for their first born.
Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed: A Man Of His Century recently revealed to OK! that the couple may opt for a quirky name.
“It’s very difficult to speculate because it’s such a personal thing,” she explained. Referring to 34-year-old Jack’s job as the European brand manager for Casamigos Tequila, she added, “They might call it Tequila!” It’s likely Princess Eugenie was inspired by her parents Sarah Ferguson and the Duke of York by picking a name that no one suspected. Her own moniker caused a stir when it was revealed in 1990, as bookmakers revealed they had hundreds of predicted names but not one bet on Eugenie.
Princess Eugenie gave birth at The Portland Hospital – the same hospital where she and sister Princess Beatrice were born. The 30-yearold welcomed her baby boy via C-section due to her previous spinal surgery for scoliosis and left the hospital three days later.
Royal insiders speculated that while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed images of their baby within days of the birth, Eugenie and Jack were able to wait a while longer due to not being working royals. Similarly, her cousin Zara Tindall, who is not a working royal, and husband
Mike also kept royal watchers waiting, announcing their second child Lena’s name nine days after the birth.
