KATE BRINGS DEREK HOME

Presenter Kate Garraway has emotionally revealed her husband derek draper has returned home after over a year in hospital following his battle with Covid-19. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Kate, 53, recalled the moment Derek, also 53, was reunited with their children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11.

“He immediately burst into tears, there was a lot of hugging and we got him inside,” she said. “He absolutely knew he was home.” Kate added that she made his favourite meal – a casserole – on his second night back, and how it was overwhelming to lay four places at the table.

Derek was first hospitalised in March last year with coronavirus and was put into a coma. He’s now been taken off all machines, but will continue to receive round-the-clock care at their newly adapted home.

Kate has been warned that he still faces a “long and gruelling” fight ahead.
