BUZZWORD: LASERBAND

THIS WEEK: DEPUTY BEAUTY EDITOR ZOE TESTS OUT THIS HOME HAIR GROWTH DEVICE

-

Ihaven’t always treated my hair with the respect it deserves. Thanks to numerous bleaching sessions and a strandsnapping brushing technique, I’d noticed my lengths were looking finer and more wispy.

In a bid to get my hair in a better condition, I started using Hairmax Laserband 41 in February. It uses medical-grade lasers to deliver concentrated light to your scalp, which, over time, should result in fuller hair and an improved growth cycle.

In short, it increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to energise and awaken weakened or dormant follicles. Ignoring the mockery I got from my family when I was wearing the band (it’s not what I’d call a discreet accessory), it was very easy to use. It needs to be worn for at least three minutes, three times a week – very doable. If you want to treat your entire scalp though and not just one area, you’ll need to wear it for three minutes at the front of your hair, then move it further back on your head for another three.

The hard teeth on the band get a bit uncomfortable after the first minute or two, but that’s a very minor niggle. It also doesn’t give immediate results, so you have to really remember to use it as directed for at least five months to start seeing benefits.

I’m at the end of my fifth month now and I’m really impressed with the results so far. I’ve got more baby hairs growing around my hairline, and my root area feels more dense.

I’ve also had comments from friends about how nice my hair looks when it’s up in a ponytail, which is amazing.

The device is a one-off splurge but I think, combined with better brushing and a nourishing haircare regime, it’s really worth it.
