MUST-DO ACTIVITIES

Make sure you visit the 1.7-mile Golden Gate Bridge – but preferably on a day when none of the area’s infamous fog is forecast, as OK! learned the hard way! The striking structure is part of a vast national park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where you can hike, Segway, cycle, horse ride and roller blade while taking in hills, lakes, woods and beaches.

It is also where you’ll find the Walt Disney Family Museum, the California Academy Of Sciences with its aquarium and planetarium, and The de Young Art Museum with its observation deck offering spectacular views.

A great way to explore the hip Mission District is to take a Wild SF murals and graffiti walking tour. It uses the street and public art to show how cultural and political history has shaped the neighbourhood.

A short stroll away is the district of Castro, a vibrant hub of LGBTQ+ culture with rainbow-coloured lamp posts, flags and sidewalks. Do make time to visit the adjoining Hayes Valley district too, with its chic home décor stores.

And if you enjoy basketball, you can watch the local NBA team, the Golden State Warriors, shoot hoops at the new Chase Center music and sport venue in Mission Bay.
