On Friday, Prince William took part in the Royal Charity Polo Cup at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, one of the highlights of the polo calendar, which attracts the biggest names in the game.

He last competed in a charity polo match two years ago, when he played against Prince Harry for the Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Polo Trophy at Billingbear Polo Club in Wokingham. And he seemed to relish being back in the saddle at last week’s event, which raised funds and awareness for his and wife Kate’s charities, including

Centrepoint, The Forward Trust and London Air Ambulance.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, is a longtime attendee of William’s charity polo matches and was often seen in the crowd even before the couple wed in 2011. But unfortunately she had to miss all engagements last week to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone with Covid-19.

It meant that William, 39, also attended last Wednesday’s Euro 2020 semi-final between England and Denmark at Wembley alone. Looking dapper in a suit, the Prince was seen cheering on the Three Lions along with thousands of fans. Prime Minister Boris Johnson – dressed in an England shirt – and his wife Carrie were also in the stands, as well as footballing legends David Beckham and Alex Scott.

Prince William’s attendance at the game followed another solo engagement on Monday, when he marked the NHS’S 73rd birthday with what was originally planned to be a series of joint engagements with his wife. In the morning, he attended a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, to celebrate the NHS’S contribution to the country during Covid-19. Guests included frontline staff, the NHS chief Sir Simon Stevens and matron May Parsons. Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer were also at the event.

Later in the afternoon, in his capacity as patron of NHS Charities Together – a joint patronage William shares with Kate – he hosted a tea party for NHS staff at Buckingham Palace. The “Big Tea” was held in the gardens of the royal residence and paid tribute to the work of NHS staff who went above and beyond during the pandemic.

As OK! went to press, plans were in place for William, who is president of the FA, to wrap up his sporty week in style with a return to Wembley to support England in their historic showdown against Italy.
