Supplementary sidecar comments

- John Hind, chairman, Federation of Sidecar Clubs

I am grateful to you for publishing news of the passing of Jack and June Taylor from Warrington (OBM, April). I knew them in the late ’70s and early ’80s when they were members of Cheshire Chairs, a local sidecar club, but we lost touch before the internet was dreamed of. With their immaculate R69S and Steib S501 outfit, they opened my eyes to what is possible with a touring sidecar.

You can just see the RennSport logo above Jack’s head in the photo (p20). He used to make and supply spares for Steib sidecars under that name and made at least one complete chair – a small version of the TR500, which was attached to June’s R26 for a while. Regarding living world champions (Feedback section), don’t forget Stan Dibben, Eric Oliver’s passenger when they were World Sidecar Champions in 1953. Stan, now in his nineties, always points out how inappropriate the word “passenger” is!
