Memories of Annandale

-

In last month’s Readers' Tales, you asked if anyone had been to Annandale B&B in Douglas, on the Isle of Man. I was 16 in August 1960 and, being peeved I had missed the TT for that year, I went to the MGP in 1960. I stayed at Annandale with Mrs Barron, as I had been there two years previously with my mum and dad, so it was an obvious choice, As I was just 16 and looked 14, I was put on a table with a family who were doing the Manx Two Day Trial. I was ‘adopted’ for the week and shown all around, and even had a go on his Greeves Scottish trials bike at Cornelly tin mines, an observed section of the trial. So me and my little Francis-Barnett Merlin had a great introduction, leading to many more trips to the TT and the MGP, and being a marshal for 20 years.
