VINTAGE RUNS
What we’re talking about here are road-going gatherings of very, very old motorcycles – as close a thing as is possible to a travelling museum. We’re talking about the likes of the Banbury Run, which has been postponed for this year but set to run in 2022 (www. banbury-run.co.uk), although we’re pleased to say that both the Pioneer Run and the Golden Era Run have been rescheduled. The Pioneer Run is planned for October 3 (www. sunbeam-mcc.co.uk) and the Golden Era Run on July 25.
There’ll be many smaller runs, often by local clubs and many of them run on a circuitous route that finishes at the same point from which it starts, although, having said that, several start at one place and end elsewhere, with the run often having historic significance.
The regional sections of the Vintage Motorcycle Club organise a number of runs, further details of which can be found at www.vmcc.net – and this year has a special meaning for the club, with 2021 being the VMCC’s 75th anniversary. Branches will be organising their own celebrations, with the North East Area sections collaborating on their Grand Ride Out on July 11, with various runs all culminating in either Allendale in the Allen Valley, or Thornton-le-Dale in the North York Moors at high noon!
And clubs such as the industrious Sunbeam MCC (which, as you probably know, doesn’t just focus on Sunbeam motorcycles) runs events like its Rose Of The Shires Run in Northamptonshire on July 4, the Graham Walker Memorial Run at Beaulieu on August 16 and the aforementioned famous Pioneer Run.
