Tiger Cub to roar at Silverstone Classic auction
On July 30 Silverstone Auctions will be holding its first sale at the Silverstone circuit that will be dedicated solely to motorcycles. Held at the Silverstone Classic event, there will be a number of interesting machines going under the hammer.
Being offered without reserve is a 1958 matching numbers Tiger
Cub which has been stored away for a number of years, while if you want to go racing, then how about a Suzuki XR69 replica which was built by Trident Racing in 2009 using one of a batch of frames built by Harris in the late 1970s and early 80s and an air-cooled GS1000 engine. Maria Costello raced this very bike at the Manx GP in 2010, 2011 and 2012, as well as in CRMC events. It was recommissioned to its current spec in 2017 to compete in the CRMC Superbike Period One championship and comes with spares. The guide price is £13-15,000.
Japanese classics from the
1970s are climbing in price and decreasing in availability, and so we will be watching with interest to see whether a 1974 Kawasaki
H2B Mach IV 750 makes its sporty guide price of £16-18,000. The fastest accelerating production motorcycle in the world at the time, if you’ve ever ridden one, you’ll know that the Mach IV demanded all of your attention, all of the time. The handling was, er, lively and the inclination to wheelie was constant, which led to its nickname of the ‘Widowmaker.’ That, along with the fact it was only in production for three years, may be why you rarely see one come up for sale. It’s a lot we shall watch with interest.
