Grimsthorpe Vintage Speed Trials
On August 28, 2021, the historical Grimsthorpe Castle estate in Lincolnshire will reverberate to the sounds, sights and even smells of prewar motorsport with the Vintage Speed Trials. Grimsthorpe has long had a connection with motorsport that stretches back more than a century to 1903 when the Lincolnshire Automobile Club ran timed runs in the old deer park. Those continued over the years and motorcycle trials were held in the park in 1921 and 1923.
Now the annual Speed Trials brings back the excitement, thrill and charm of those days as, over the course of the day, more than 100 cars and motorcycles will each run the half-mile track three times. The public will also be able to experience the paddock at close quarters, along with displays of an eclectic mix of vehicles. Visitors and participants are encouraged to wear period dress (although, as you will see from the accompanying photo, it’s not obligatory) and there will be a variety of food and drink available. Visit www.speedtrials.co.uk to find out more and buy tickets. While the slots for track runs are already fully booked, there is still an opportunity to display your vehicle in the impressive courtyard in front of the castle (a part of the castle designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, the architect of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard). Email mel@speedtrials.co.uk for details.
