Reclaiming a registration

-

Regarding the letter in OBM432 about Mr A Helm’s brother’s BSA

(302 FKH), even if registered with Swansea at present to another keeper, the registration could well be restored to him if proof is provided that the bike is genuine and original numbers are those on his bike, which they will be if he has had the bike from new. The other machine currently bearing that registration most likely will have those numbers stamped but any RGS expert would be able to confirm, or otherwise, their authenticity. I guess this will only be a problem should the bike ever come back to the UK , but, if so, the DVLA will no doubt look into it if there are demonstrably two machines with the same VIN number, one of which could be a fake.

I had this problem with a pair of Tiger Cubs recently, but we managed to establish which was the genuine one and Swansea reissued the number to it.
