Buying a Triumph from Jack Hubbard
Regarding the Feedback topic in the July edition on Jack Hubbard’s shops, I remember going to the Braintree shop in 1965 to buy a Triumph. He had no Triumphs in so he sent us to Sudbury where we had a choice of a Tiger 110 or a 5TA 1Speed Twin. At the time I had an Ariel Leader to part exchange and they asked if they could try it out, to which I agreed. On return, the rider said to me: “Did you know you have a broken front wheel spindle?” Oh!
I recalled a few months earlier my girlfriend and I were on a very narrow road when a tractor approached. We had to swerve and unfortunately hit a water gutter. That was possibly when it broke. So we bought the Speed Twin and my girlfriend exchanged a ratty Roma for a Vespa.
My girlfriend has now been my wife for 55 years. I still have a Tiger 100 – a 1969 model – in the shed. Ray and Lyn Parker, Manningtree, Essex
