Fresh pants for Mr Potter!

Another snippet about EJ Potter, the Michigan Madman. I was competing at that meeting in my Imp-engined dragster and everything stopped to watch EJ perform. I was standing behind him on the start line so I had a great view of the proceedings. He gunned it off the line and the smoke cleared enough to see him swerve across the strip and slam into the left-hand barrier.

Showman that he was, he grabbed another handful of throttle – and did exactly the same thing again, eventually coming off and giving up. We weren’t used to accidents at The Pod and things went very quiet until finally the laconic American commentator assured us that “his injuries are to remain a secret forever between him and his laundryman”. Happy days.
